Introductory Paragraph

"Life is like a game of cards. The hand you are dealt is determinism; the way you play it is free will." This was said by Jawarhal Nehru. It means that how life acts towards you is uncontrollable, however, the way you react towards life is what defines you, and the decisions you make will reflect the kind of life you live. This quote is true based on the fact that humans can do whatever they choose to, even if it has a negative impact on themselves or others. This can be clearly seen in The Hobbit written by J.R.R Tolkien. In this story, Tolkien makes the protagonist, Bilbo Baggins, seem very cautious and hesitant to choose the easy way out and never go on adventures, but he gets a quest forced upon him by another's choice, and he reluctantly chooses to go and assist the people that wanted him to go. He shows how Baggins choices become more courageous, more wise in his choices, and how he stays true to himself.

I am Bilbo

                                                                     I am Bilbo
I am short and pudgy
I wonder about today's tea.
I hear the birds and the bees
I see my people being happy
I want to live a happy life
I am content with myself

I pretend for no one, I am myself
I feel happy and complacent
I touch the clothes I made
I worry about nothing but myself
I cry when I spill tea
I am non-adventurous

I understand that people are weird
I say nothing bothers me
I dream of never leaving my cozy home
I try to never leave my cozy home
I hope nobody takes me from my cozy home
I am so comfy in this cozy home

THE HOBBIT

"The Hobbit"
The Hobbit is a book written by J.R.R Tolkien, which tells the the story of a dwarf named Bilbo Baggins. The theme is about courage and free will, and the influence of choices. I chose this book because I had to choose one, and I thought it looked cool. I predict the main character will succeed somehow because they always do.

Card 32

Karla, Brad, and Emma were on a beach in Florida in the year 2021, on August 23rd, they were hanging out just relaxing and stuff, then out of the water comes the ancient psychic tandem war elephant. it's ferocity was astounding and it scared the young teens, they ran into the surf board shop and hid behind the counters, it seemed as if the doors were yelling out, "hey! they're over here!" because the elephant could tell exactly where they were. The elephant busted through the doors who cried out " that's messed up you dishrag we helped you out!" The teens screamed out at the elephant and started running towards the bar in the beach, then, the elephant furtively transported himself to the bar without them knowing, he finally spoke. " You guys suck, I just wanted to be your friend and grant you three wishes, and then you get all scared and what not, you hurt my feelings guys." Brad, being a boisterous dude, yelled out" well maybe if you didn't chase us and scare us with your hideous taste in footwear, we could've been friends!" Emma and Karla, not really understanding what's going on, asked the elephant about the wishes he mentioned. "You'll grant us three wishes? Is there a catch?" The elephant calmed himself, and responded. " No there's no catch I was just chilling with the cosmic owl and I got bored so I wanted to entertain myself, what do you guys want? immortality? millions of dollars? a hot girlfriend? "Hey, I want a hot girlfriend! Can she be named canyon?" Exclaimed Brad. "No you smell like dog buns Brad." The ancient psychic tandem war elephant is really sarcastic. "Oh" said Brad sadly. " Can I have some pizza then?" " A pizza? I can literally just go buy you a pizza." "No that's fine I want pizza." "Oh, okay I guess..." Brad then received pizza and left and went home. He's not part of the story anymore.

The Hero

" A hero is an ordinary individual who finds the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles." Christopher Reeve.  This quote means that going through struggle will ultimately make you a stronger person, mentally or physically. The obstacles we face in life test us again and again but we're able to prove that we can pull through and survive. Regular people can do extraordinary things if they can be brave in the face of adversity.
I agree with the quote and it's meaning, it has proven true that persevering through struggle can be tremendously rewarding and it feels good to know that you beat or did something that was hard.
One example of this is when I first ran around the school, I could barely do it, I was a lipid. Now I can run around the school fine now without getting tired.
